FAQ
-
Children need to bring a backpack, lunch in a lunchbox. (except for Fiesta Texas and Schlitterbahn days). Pack extra food in their lunch. We burn a lot of calories in this camp. They also need a water bottle with water, sunscreen, and a towel.
-
For Fiesta Texas and Schlitterbahn parents will need to give their child a pre-paid credit card or cash to purchase their lunch. Keep in mind that Fiesta Texas does not accept cash. They do have kiosks in which you can pay cash for a card there but this takes away from time enjoying the park.
-
It is best for them to wear swim attire for the whole day for Outdoor and Theme Park weeks. For Indoor weeks, on days we do get in water, they can wear their swimsuit underneath their plain clothes and just remove them when getting into the water. Swim shirts are also highly recommended for everyone.
-
Since we often visit swimming pools and natural bodies of water (even during our indoor weeks), we strongly encourage only proficient swimmers to sign up. When visiting natural bodies of water, we will require campers 8-11 years old to wear a life jacket. If visiting dark water areas, all campers and staff will be required to wear them. When visiting swimming pools, campers will take a swimming competency test to measure their abilities. Those kiddos that cannot complete one down and back lap without assistance will be required to wear a jacket in the pool. Also, we will accommodate any parent request for their kiddo to wear a life jacket.
-
Drop off is between 8:00-9:00am. Typically, we will leave for our first destination between 9:00-9:30. For Fiesta Texas days we leave early at 8:15 sharp.
Pick-up is between 5:30-6:00pm. We will update parents/guardians of any early or late times via social media posts or direct texts through the enrollment system.
-
Yes. You can come to where we are. We will not wait for you at any particular location but we can coordinate you dropping them off where we are or where we are going to be.
-
Late pick ups after 6pm will incur an initial $10 Fee then an additional $2/min after 6:10pm. Please notify us ASAP if you will be late picking up.
-
We strongly discourage bringing any electronics or other personal items that were not explicitly outlined in the “What to bring?” section of this FAQ. Although we will not confiscate or ban these items, we think kiddos will best enjoy the full experience of camp without them.
-
We will follow the annual AISD School Calendar starting camp the very first week after school is out and wrapping up camp the very last week before the new school year begins.
-
If your child will be turning 8 any time during the duration of camp or before September 1st, they will be allowed to attend camp. Subsequently, if your child will turn 16 during the duration of camp or before September 1st, they will NOT be allowed to attend.
-
If a younger sibling (in the 8-11 group) would be more comfortable hanging out with their older sibling (especially at the beginning of the week) they can certainly tag along with them. However, in the interest of developmental growth, separation is sometimes necessary, so, if the older sibling needs some space we will adapt and accommodate.
-
Campers 8-11 years old will be assigned to counselor groups based on the the venues we are visiting. Campers 12-15 years old are considered young adults and will be free to explore in groups of 2 or more unsupervised with regular check-ins with counselors.
-
Ideally, most days we will have 3 staff members per 12 campers, 1:4. Some days we will have only 2 staff per 12, 1:6.
-
When campers are struggling to uphold the standards set forth by the camp virtues we will be diligent in communicating these facts with parents/guardians. However, there may be times when repeated disruptive behavior will require suspension for the remainder of the current week enrolled and possibly future weeks. In extreme circumstances, indefinite or permanent bans could be enforced.
-
4-Day weeks are a combination of all three specialty camps. Memorial Day week and July 4th week are typically our 4-Day weeks. On years Memorial Day occurs after school lets out for the summer, we will run a 4-Day week from Tuesday thru Friday that week. On years July 4th falls on a weekend, Monday, or Friday, we will run a 4-Day week camp. On years that July 4th falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, we will take the whole week off and not operate camp.
